This course surveys American Literature of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. Novel, drama, short story, essay, and non-fiction are among the literary forms studied. Writing, speaking, listening, language, and research units will be integrated with the literature.
The course emphasizes critical thinking, and personal responses to reading and creative expression in writing will be required.
The core of Honors English 11 is the English 11 course. The differences between the two are in amount and level of enrichment and challenge: a faster pace and greater depth of literary study and analysis, even more critical thinking, higher level writing assignments and more writing, and the expectation that students will demonstrate a greater degree of independence and self-motivation.
