This course surveys non-fiction essay forms as well as American literature of the 19th and 20th centuries. The concentration during this year’s study is on modes of non-fiction writing, with some additional novel selections. Drama, poetry, and short fiction are among the other literary forms studied, all with an emphasis on language and style. Students should expect an intense concentration in the study of language and composition. Writing, speaking, listening, language, and research units are integrated with the literature/language study.
