The American Studies Program completes the three-part study of the United States that started in eighth grade and was continued in the freshman year. This study examines contemporary America from 1865 to the present. Emphasis will not only be placed on individuals critical to that history but also to their motivations and the eventual outcomes of those decisions.

The staff believes that present day students should be able to make well-conceived value decisions concerning the present and the future; therefore, by examining the decision makers and decision making of the past they will be well prepared for their role in the future.
